KAMRA™ Inlay Recovery
KAMRA™ Inlay Recovery - Pomona, NY
Many people live their lives enjoying clear, focused vision without the assistance of prescription lenses. But as people advance in age, even those who have never had to squint or lean in to see objects clearly find themselves struggling to see the small print of a book, newspaper, or email. Age-related farsightedness, also known as presbyopia, is extremely common among individuals aged 45 and older.
The KAMRA™ inlay is the only FDA approved implant to correct age-related farsightedness and reduce or eliminate a person’s dependence on reading glasses. Dr. Richard Gordon is happy to offer this safe and effective procedure. Here, patients can learn a little more about the KAMRA™ inlay recovery process following treatment at our Pomona, NY laser vision center.
KAMRA™ Inlay Placement
Before looking into the recovery process following KAMRA™ inlay treatment, let’s briefly go over the placement procedure. The KAMRA™ inlay is similar to a soft contact lens, only smaller. The inlay is a small circle that has a tiny opening in its center. The opening sits over the pupil and allows focused light to enter the eye, thus improving a person’s close-up, or reading, vision.
Dr. Gordon will place the KAMRA™ implant in the non-dominant eye so that the patient can maintain good distance vision. The KAMRA™ inlay is placed while the eye is numb, to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. A laser will be focused on the eye and used to create a small pocket in the outer layers of the cornea. After the pocket has been created, the KAMRA™ inlay will be placed. The entire procedure takes less than 20 minutes.
KAMRA™ Inlay Recovery
Although KAMRA™ inlay placement is minimally invasive, patients should be prepared for a brief recovery period following their procedure. During the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery, vision is likely to be blurry. We advise patients to avoid driving during this time. Aside from this driving restriction, most patients are ready to resume all other routine activities (including work) within a day or two after their procedure.
Some side effects that are common during the first several days after KAMRA™ inlay placement include:
- Dry, itchy eyes
- Excessive tearing or watery eyes
- Increased sensitivity to light
- Mild irritation or discomfort
To minimize any discomfort associated with these side effects and ensure a smooth, speedy recovery, patients should adhere to all post-surgical care instructions. Patients should use all prescribed medication as directed (including artificial tears), and avoid reaching for their reading glasses when their farsighted vision is blurry. With proper care, clear vision will be achieved quickly.
KAMRA™ Inlay Results
Each patient’s eyes will recover at a slightly different pace. Some patients experience a slow, steady improvement in up-close vision, while others notice a quick and dramatic improvement. In either case, it is normal for vision to fluctuate slightly in the first three to six months after surgery. While most patients see results as soon as a day or two after surgery, the most dramatic and stable results will likely not be achieved for at least three months.
If you have noticed a loss in reading vision as you’ve aged, you may be an ideal candidate for KAMRA™ inlay placement. Contact us at your earliest convenience to learn more about this procedure and find out how you can reduce your dependency on reading glasses.
